The Structure of (CM)²

The structure of (CM)² is arranged concentrically around the core elements of the Rhineland-Palatinate research center. The core (CM)² research projects are the development, application and improvement of mathematical models for engineering and natural sciences, their numerical implementation and coding using state-of-the-art software as well as the design of a web of mathematical models built analogously to the world wide web, on which it is based. These aims are achieved by close cooperation of six departments of the University of Kaiserslautern (Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering (EIT), Mechanical and Process Engineering (MV), Biology, Architecture, Regional and Environmental Planning, Civil Engineering (ARUBI)) as well as the Fraunhofer Institut für Techno- und Wirtschaftsmathematik (ITWM), the Deutsche Forschungsinstitut für künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) and the Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe (IVW).

Structure of CM2

The principal investigators from the six departments involved are in charge of the project management and realization. They are supported by institutional and associate members, the associate investigators. This structure is strictly continued in the hierarchy of (CM)². That is, the steering board of four professors is also recruited from the departments involved.

Besides its research aims, support of young researchers plays a particularly essential role for (CM)². This is ensured by the structural integration of the Nachwuchsring, which is also built up with equal representation.
